"There are times when retreating is necessary.
Retreating from the precipitance and the daily grind.
At times like these, a place to come to rest is needed.
Some places are destined for this.
A little remote, but not lonely.
Reduced to the essential, but not sparse.
The Cloister Kappel is such a place.
Time elapses differently here.
Here, the strength of century old walls is combined with modern hospitality."
Legend has it that cavemen lived in this area before the monastery of Cappel was founded in 1185, and in fact caves were discovered on the site of the later abbot's cellar which were connected to a small chapel 150 metres east of the present building by an underground passage.
The building continued to be used as a monastery until the reformation of the church of Zurich in 1527, when it was converted into the residence of the officials designated by the city of Zurich to administrate the region. This is when it was renovated and extended and given its present-day baroque appearance.
The house is situated in a beautiful countryside region between Zurich and Lucerne, with a magnificent view of the majestic Alps.
